About “Rooted in Hope”:
Established in 1975, during the height of the chicano movement, Dr. Roberto Vargas co-founded La Familia, a community based organization that came about to meet the need of providing culturally sensitive and bilingual mental health services to the Latino community in the Bay Area. Dr. Vargas, along with current members of the organization, tell the story of La Familia’s growth over the past 48 years.
